Clev AV is the parent entity that houses Alter Clef Records, Ether Clef Records, Clef AV Live events and Sakura Nights. It is run by Daniel Mackenzie and Nick Hudson in Brighton, England, with the help of several amazing souls… See the separate categories to the right for blog updates on the individual activities of each, along with general information on the pages along the top.
Alter Clef / Ether Clef Records is a two headed label venture born in Brighton, England, with a mission to gather together and promote a wide selection of works by those artists that so profoundly massage our brains and souls. Non-genre specific, yet not a catch-all mess, we strive to build a diverse yet complimentary catalogue of physical releases with a strong emphasis on beautiful visual art, photography, printed media, literature and other media formats. Not one of the duo is regarded as the parent label, but together form a cohesive partnership.
Clef AV Live was born out a desire to put together engrossing and involving audio-visual shows, not just for the ears of the listener. As such the events are designed to treat the attendees with emphasis on moving, dramatic or otherwise atmospheric performances, coupled together with flowers, scents, artwork and projection to rouse the other senses also. Also represented here is Sakura Nights, Daniel Mackenzie’s fairly long running DIY gig promotion venture that has seen widely contrasting bands and artists grace the stage in everything from hardcore punk and technical metal to folk, ambient and noise. Clef AV events will be co-promoted with Sakura, yet the latter will still operate independently in promoting messier, punkier gigs when we feel like getting dirty.
Additionally, the miscellaneous category is a place for us to throw words at the internet in an attempt to rid ourselves of their oppressive and mentally suffocating power. They will, you are warned, range from spontaneously inspired to hopelessly and deliriously drivelesque, with plenty of made up word combinations and beautiful nonsense.
